Why Smile is Important?

Simister Orthodontics in Las Vegas Patient
Stephanie C (Actual Patient)
Many people are suffering from self pity and lack of confidence to smile because of crooked teeth; that is why they make an effort to fix it and make things better. But, why must they do it?
There have even been studies that indicate that it only takes three seconds to make a lasting impression of seeing someone.
Whether its an interview for a job, just socializing face to face or vitually, a recent perception study conducted by Kelton, proves that the alignment of the teeth causes assumptions concerning popularity, professional success ,and intelligence.
According to a conducted study by Kelton conducted January 2012, many Americans say teeth are distinct feature when it comes to what they notice and recall when first meeting someone; and two in five Americans would not go on a second date with someone who has crooked teeth and more than half believe someone with crooked teeth would be less likely to land a job when competing with someone who has a similar skill set and experience.
Dr. Michelle Callahan, renowned TV host, relationship expert, coach, and development psychologist said: “Whether we like it or not, we are often judged by our appearance”. “Your smile has more of an effect on what others perceive about you than you think.”

10 Common Dental Problems

10 Common Dental Problems
Having a great simile is what most people want to possess, a healthy smile boosts self-confidence and lifts up self-esteem. But, there are obstacles that you have to protect your smile from.
Bad Breath (Halitosis)
is an oral health condition associated with dental problems such as tooth decay, bacteria on tongue, gum disease, etc.
Tooth Decay
Also known as dental caries or cavities, it occurs when plaque (a sticky film of bacteria that forms when you eat sugars or starch), is allowed to linger on teeth for a long period of time.  Plaque then produces acids that attack the tooth enamel, making it vulnerable.
Gum Disease
Infection of Gums surrounding the teeth that causes tooth loss in most adults.
Mouth Sores
There are two types of sores: canker sores are non-virus based and caused by everything from stress to a hereditary predilection; and herpes, which is virus-based and contagious (through direct contact, like kissing, or sharing things like drinking glasses).
Yellow Teeth
this can be acquired from the food we eat, especially often intakes of red wine and coffee; but might also be natural.
Tooth Sensitivity
the root surface of the teeth can be permanently exposed if the gums recede, causing the sensitivity on cold and heat.
Wisdom Teeth
We’re are all going to have wisdom teeth, but our jaw may not handle extra teeth and will just erupt partly, causing bacteria to lurk into the soft tissue of the non-erupted part covering of the wisdom tooth.
Tooth Erosion
Tooth erosion is the loss of tooth structure and is caused by acid attacking the enamel. Exposure to acid, primarily from soda or citrus drinks, can wear down the surface of the teeth, making them rounded and discolored.
Oral Cancer
An oral cancer may start with a small, pale, red, painless lump on some area of the mouth. A dentist can easily screen for the disease by examining and feeling around a patient's mouth, head, and neck.

Treatment For Braces and Invisalign

CHILDREN’S BRACES

When is the best time to begin orthodontics?

Though an orthodontist can enhance a smile at any age, there is an optimal time period tobegin treatment. Beginning treatment at this time ensures the greatest result and the least amount of time and expense. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that the initial orthodontic evaluation should occur at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 7. At this early age, orthodontic treatment may not be necessary, but vigilant examination can anticipate the most advantageous time to begin treatment.

What are the benefits of early orthodontic evaluation?

Early evaluation provides both timely detection of problems and greater opportunity for more effective treatment. Prudent intervention guides growth and development, preventing serious problems later. When orthodontic intervention is not necessary, an orthodontist can carefully monitor growth and development and begin treatment when it is ideal.Childrens Braces

Why is age 7 considered the optimal time for screening?

By the age of 7, the first adult molars erupt, establishing the back bite. During this time, an orthodontist can evaluate front-to-back and side-to-side tooth relationships. For example, the presence of erupting incisors can indicate a possible overbite, open bit, crowding or gummy smiles. Timely screening increases the chances for an incredible smile.

What are the advantages of interceptive treatment?

Some of the most direct results of interceptive treatment are:
  • Creating room for crowded, erupting teeth
  • Creating facial symmetry through influencing jaw growth
  • Reducing the risk of trauma to protruding front teeth
  • Preserving space for unerupted teeth
  • Reducing the need for tooth removal
  • Reducing treatment time with braces

Are you a candidate for orthodontic treatment?

Orthodontics is not merely for improving the aesthetics of the smile; orthodontic treatment improves bad bites (malocclusions). Malocclusions occur as a result of tooth or jaw misalignment. Malocclusions affect the way you smile, chew, clean your teeth or feel about your smile.

Why should malocclusions be treated?

According to studies by the American Association of Orthodontists, untreated malocclusions can result in a variety of problems. Crowded teeth are more difficult to properly brush and floss, which may contribute to tooth decay and/or gum disease. Protruding teeth are more susceptible to accidental chipping. Crossbites can result in unfavorable growth and uneven tooth wear. Openbites can result in tongue-thrusting habits and speech impediments. Ultimately, orthodontics does more than make a pretty smile–it creates a healthier you.
 Orthodontics for Kids

ADULT BRACES

Braces aren’t just for kids anymore. Tooth alignment can be changed at any age if your gums and bone structure are healthy. We offer a variety of treatments that are designed for different age groups – including adults. A new smile can begin today.
Orthodontic treatment at later stages of life can dramatically improve your personal appearance and self-esteem. Improving the health of your teeth and gums is equally important. Crooked teeth and a bad bite can contribute to gum and bone loss, tooth decay, abnormal wear of the tooth enamel and surfaces, headaches and jaw joint (TMJ/YMD) pain.
Good news! The new techniques and appliances we use greatly reduce discomfort levels, decrease the frequency of visits, shorten treatment time and may allow you to choose from several options. Your options may include metal braces, translucent braces or transparent aligners that can be worn at night to improve mild cases of misaligned teeth.
During the initial examination, we will be able to determine the best possible treatment for your individual needs During this initial examination, we can outline the treatment plan, time of treatment expected and the approximate cost.
A large percentage of our patients are adults, and they agree that it’s never too late to improve their greatest asset – their smile!

RETENTION

When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. The retention phase lasts for a minimum of 24 months. Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far. Remember to remove your retainer before brushing, and brush your retainer before placing it back in your mouth.

TYPES OF BRACES

Metal braces are the most common type. They are made of high-grade stainless steel. Today’s metal braces are smaller, more comfortable and more attractive.
Clear braces are made of translucent (clear) material. They are most popular with adult patients, due to their cosmetic appeal.

About Invisalign

Invisalign is a great alternative to traditional braces. It works towards the same results but with a different systems and several advantages. Instead of Brackets and Wires adjusted for the proper aligning of the teeth, Invisalign is a set of custom-made trays which are simply inserted onto the teeth. Every two weeks a new set of trays, or aligners are worn until the prescribed treatment period is completed and the desired results achieved.
Many patients prefer using Invisalign for several reasons. First off, Invisalign solves most patients’, especially adults’ concern over the aesthetic factor of most orthodontic appliances. These custom made trays are made of clear plastic which makes them virtually invisible. Other people will hardly notice a patient is in treatment until it is completed. They are also comfortable and convenient to use. Aligners are merely inserted onto the teeth and worn for most of the day. They are removed when eating and brushing allowing patients to enjoy food unrestricted process is simple, relying mostly on a patient’s diligence in wearing them and sticking to the plan. (This includes wearing the aligners for 20-22 hours per day throughout the treatment period, having tooth colored attachments bonded to some teeth in order to aid with tooth movement. Changing into graduating into sets of trays and periodic checkups with the orthodontics) and promises great results.
To get started on an Invisalign treatment, individuals must consult with an Invisalign provider. Dr. Simister is a Las Vegas Invisalign orthodontist and can duplicate a patients’ teeth to come up with a custom treatment plan. The plan is then submitted to Align Technology where a 3D representation of the patients treatment is created and the series of aligners are made. When it is done, the set is sent back to Dr. Simister where a patients can pick it up and be advised on how it is best used. Each new aligner/ retainer in the set should be used according to the doctor’s prescription to ensure effectiveness of the treatment.
Passion for good dental health and aesthetics doesn’t have to be difficult . Consult with Dr. Simister if this can be an option for you.
